We asked CGMC board member and local entrepreneur, Joe Spinelli, “What’s love got to do with it?” Joe responded with his top five love songs:
Con Te Partirò – Andrea Bocelli
This song is special because of my Italian heritage and my mother loved Andrea when she was alive. Every time I hear him sing this song it reminds me of her.
I Got You Babe – Sonny & Cher
This song reminds me of when I was a little boy. Mom and I used to watch the Sonny & Cher show, sing to the songs and laugh at the skits!
Paradise by the Dashboard Light – Meat Loaf
This song reminds me of a family member, Linda. Occasionally I would spend weekends over at her house hanging out with her son, and she would play this song really loud while we sang it at the top of our lungs.
Let’s Stay Together – Tina Turner
I used to listen to Tina Turner as a teenager – she was my idol! I really love Tina because she endured so much abuse in her younger singing years – much like I did being bullied – and listening to her music would give me inspiration that “everything is going to be okay.”
True Colors – Cyndi Lauper
Cyndi Lauper was another teenage idol! For so many years I hid my true colors: being gay. It took many years of therapy and support from my friends to realize that I was okay…and to let my “true colors shine through.” (CGMC performs “True Colors” live at Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Denver, CO)
Vox on the Rocks plays at the Van Fleet Theatre at the Columbus Performing Arts Center on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15. Matinee tickets are available; both evening performances are sold out.
